The 2016 Diwali celebration offers one of the clearest surviving records of how much work, variety and volunteer energy goes into a major BVIS cultural program.
Thirty-three acts across many traditions
A contemporary LokVani report described 33 acts spanning classical dance and singing, folk and Bollywood dance, and Bhangra. That variety turned a single evening into a broad display of Indian cultural expression rather than a program centered on only one region or style.
New ideas joined established traditions
Two new segments were highlighted in the report: a children’s Ramayana light-and-sound presentation and a Nach Baliye dance competition. A fashion show also returned for a second year. These additions show a community program willing to evolve while staying rooted in cultural storytelling and performance.
Service was part of the story too
The opening remarks recognized members’ positive community contributions through the Jimmy Fund Walk and a food drive. That connection between celebration and service remains central to the way BVIS presents itself today.
Volunteers and sponsors made the program possible
The report thanked volunteers and a group of supporting businesses and organizations, reinforcing that a large cultural program depends on work that happens well before the audience enters the room.
